The Professional Photographers

On October 6, 2026, Clayfield Studio closed its doors — exactly 30 years after I opened them.

After more than half a century behind the camera, I've retired from large-scale commercial photography. But I've certainly not lost my love of making photographs.

My journey began at the age of seven. Since then, I've had the privilege of photographing people, products, industry, architecture, musicians and major events, working with businesses and organisations throughout Queensland. My clients have included Telstra, Brisbane City Council, Volvo Truck and Bus, BHP Billiton, G.James Group, National Glass, Raine & Horne and many others.

Along the way, I've served as an office bearer of the Professional Photographers Association of Queensland and enjoyed the friendship and support of many wonderful clients and fellow photographers.

Thirty years ago, when I left MAX Instruments to open my studio, I was given a gold pocket watch engraved: “Mark Taylor Photographer. October 6 1996.” I still have it. On October 6, 2026, it marked the end of a remarkable chapter in my life.

I chose my final photographic assignment deliberately: photographing Stephen Hart, a Brisbane sculptor who has been my friend since 1956. It seemed a fitting way to bring the journey full circle.

While the major commercial productions are behind me, I'm still happy to undertake smaller assignments for past clients and friends. Portraits, products and the occasional special project are all possibilities. I simply no longer have the appetite for lugging heavy lighting equipment around!

I'll continue accepting selected small assignments through June 30, 2028.

To everyone who has trusted me, supported me, recommended me or shared this wonderful profession with me over the years, thank you. It's been an extraordinary ride.

Clayfield Studio may have closed its doors, but the camera is still within reach.
